FS conducts sponsored research to meet the needs of tomorrow’s Medical, Military, & Industrial Markets.
Through a Phase I SBIR from NIH, Ferro Solutions is working with Ed Boyden's lab at MIT to develop a wireless deep brain stimulation system.
Ferro Solutions engineers focused on the challenges of wireless power transfer, including generating a uniform field for the subjects and a light weight receiver that would allow subjects to be un-tethered and behave naturally.
Boyden's group at MIT focused making a light weight system to replace existing bench-top lasers. These optogenetic systems use light to stimulate the brain.
It is expected to take a number of years for a system to be available for humans, however, this research has already produced a platform that will enable and support future neuroscience and pharmaceutical studies. Check out the FMA-04 on the Products page.
